REGISTRATION OF COPYRIGHT

In accordance with international and the national law, registration of a copyright is not mandatory and this is one of the main differences between copyright items and other intellectual property items for which registration is a precondition for exercising and protecting one's rights.

COPYRIGHT ITEMS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

1. Literary works, written works of fictional, journalistic, scientific, technical or other nature (books, booklets, articles, etc);
2. Performances, lectures, speeches, sermons and other oral works;
3. Computer programs;
4. Databases;
5. Musical works with or without lyrics;
6. Dramatic, musical-dramatic works, pantomimes, choreographic and other works created for stage performance, and their productions; 
7. Audiovisual works;
8. Works of pictorial art;
9. Works of architecture, urban planning and garden (landscaping) art;
10. Photographic works, including works created in ways similar to photography;
11. Works of applied art, including works of decorative weaving, ceramics, carving, casting of art glass, jewellery etc, if they are not protected by the laws of Ukraine on  legal protection of industrial property;
12. Illustrations, maps, plans, drawings, sketches, plastic works relating to geography, geology, topography, engineering, architecture and other fields;
13. Stage adaptation of works listed in paragraph 1 of this section, and adaptation of folklore, suitable for stage performance;
14. Derived works;
15. Collections of works, collections of folklore adaptations, encyclopaedias and anthologies, collections of ordinary data, other compiled works, provided that they are the product of creative work to select, coordinate or order the content without infringing copyright to the works included in them as constituent parts;
16. Translation texts of ​​foreign audiovisual works for dubbing, scoring, subtitling in Ukrainian and other languages;
17. Other works.

COPYRIGHT ITEMS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

Registration of authors' copyright to a work.

Registration of employer's copyright to a work for hire.

ADVANTAGES OF COPYRIGHT REGISTRATION:

Certificate of state registration of author's rights to a work allows to set the date of creation.

Certificate confirms the ownership of a work, confirms that an author or a third person has a certain scope of property and non-property rights.

Certificate is required when commercializing a work in various ways.

TERM OF COPYRIGHT REGISTRATION

A copyright is normally registered within 2-2.5 months.
